Final Project: Formulating a Thesis

Web Resources for This Assignment

Final Project

The Final Project   At this point in the course, you should begin thinking about how you're going to bring the material of the course together in your final project. You have studied enough world cultures to be able to think about what will make a viable project, how to relate cultures to one another, and how to think of particular topics, such as architecture and music, in relationship to the world views that you're studying.
At this point, then, I want you to review the final project assignment and make some decisions regarding it. I want you to pick a topic and at least one culture out of the three you must talk about. I then want you to formulate a thesis and an explanation of that thesis; this will be the starting point of your work on the final project.
I'd like you to write three paragraphs. In the first paragraph, you're to give in one sentence the thesis of your entire project. The remainder of the first paragraph will explain the rough structure of the argument that you're going to make to demonstrate your thesis.
The second paragraph will explain the significance or the relevance of your thesis and argument. Why is it important that we agree with your thesis? What are we going to be able to explain or understand after we've read your final project?
The third paragraph will explain the topics that you're going to cover from at least one of the cultures you've studied. What primary texts are you going to use? What topics are you going to cover, other than the specified main topic, from that culture? How are you going to fit those topics in with the main topic of your paper?:
