African Stories Project

African Stories   The assignment is oriented around class discussion. On Thursday, you are going to run the class in a roundtable discussion of the traditional African world view. In this assignment, we will spend an entire class period trying to understand the traditional African view of the individual, society, and the world.
In order to do this, we're going to try to understand what traditional Africans actually say about their world. We're going to focus on traditional African narratives or stories, but we're not going to focus on a single story as we've been doing. By this point in the class, you should be able to make your own decisions about your education and the materials that you learn from. So in this spirit, I'm asking you to work in groups and to find in the library or on the Internet a traditional African story or narrative. In class you'll be asked to present that story and what it means and answer interpretive questions from the rest of the class.
Here, however, I want you to submit a two to four paragraph summary of the story or narrative that you're going to explain in class. The other members of the class will then read your summaries before class so that they know what you're talking about and can prepare questions for you.
