jitsuaku

There are standard character roles in kabuki theater; whereas in Western theater we tend to think of simple role categories such as "protagonist" and "antagonist." There is in kabuki, however, several categories of roles within these roles which the audience would be completely familiar with. There are, for instance, several classes of villains. The real or central villain is called jitsuaku; this character is morally corrupt or evil in every fiber of his being.
